Valentine’s Day on a Budget

Now I’m personally not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day for the typical reasons and for the fact that most couples turn into the gross, smushy, love gushers we all know and ha- I mean love. (Shots fired). Anyhoo it can be fun to partake in all of the commercialism, but perhaps you don’t have the monies. Have no fear, I will give you solutions to your lack of creativity.

1. Make Food Together
Seems simple, right?

Instead of your typical food that you’re comfortable making, try something dangerous. Make a Baked Alaska or Crème Brûlèe at home. The very thought makes me tremble in my warm knit socks. Or try making Thai food or something that may be obscure to your palate. If you’re picky I can’t help you, but even something simple like chocolate dipped strawberries is fun (unless you make them regularly).

2. Dollar Tree Dash
I don’t know about you but the Dollar Trees in Orlando are TREE-mendous (haha…I hate myself). Anyways the rules are: You and your significant other each get $5 and 10 minutes in the dollar store to pick out the best Valentine’s Day gift you can. Then you can post pictures on social media to decide the winner. Whoever gets the most likes wins! This is great for couples who are competitive.

3. Paint Night
I’ll start this one off by saying I am a shoddy painter. However, I do love painting. It’s extremely relaxing (especially if you add a glass of wine). You can purchase a set of canvases, paints, and brushes for $15-35 depending on where you go and which brands you buy. I usually like to paint and then throw it away so I use pieces of cardboard instead of canvases. It is actually a nice texture to paint on and you don’t feel so bad if you mess it up. If you want to go really inexpensive you can use cardboard, paints, and your fingers to bring you and your partner back to childhood.

4. Bubble Bath
Now this may sound boring, but obviously you’re doing it wrong then. Grab some cheap tea lights, bubble bath/bath bomb, snacks, and drink of choice. You are set to go. You can play some Frank Sinatra or Little People in the background to set the mood. Sometimes I like to bring my laptop in and watch a movie…Don’t judge me. Shared baths are fun and often envoke great conversation.

5. Home Movie Theatre
Most of us have flat screen TVs nowadays, and if you have a projector then you’re set. Grab a movie from your local Red Box, Netflix, or Disney stash. Put up some black out curtains and grab all of the snacks and drinks. I personally suggest a marathon (Indiana Jones, anything Disney, Harry Potter, etc.). If you want to make it romantic you can transfer those tealights from the bathroom to the “theatre”.

Overall have a good day, be safe, and you’re welcome.
